My first Italian Greyhound arrived in 1984, and I cannot imagine my home without one now!
Having decided that this was the only Toy breed for me, I was incredibly lucky to discover that the world famous 'FLEETING' kennel of Molly Garish and Doreen Buck was literally 'just down the road'!!
I visited to view a litter of 5 bitches, and was totally captivated by these elegant tiny dogs that swarmed around me, all eager to be fussed or picked up ... I was hooked ....... then when I saw the puppies who were five weeks old, well I was blown away and fell head over heels with my 'little pink slug' - she was very porky and looked nothing like the elegant creature she would eventually become!
I consider myself to of been very privileged to have owned the last 'Fleeting' bitch to be shown - 'Fleeting Frosted Pearl of Curnix'
Although I was not able to show Whiffle as much as I would of liked, she was a consistent winner at both Open and Championship shows. As well as being a fantastic companion she fulfilled my childhood dream of Qualifying for CRUFTS and winning a 1st Prize there at her first appearance!
As usual my dogs work as well as look good, and Wiffle was no different .... she did a bit of Obedience, and loved Agility, plus we did training for Working Trials which she adored - especially Tracking and the 6'Scale !!
She was also very competent at Rabbit catching and working with my ferrets.
Madam decided that she could do a much better job than the Collie on one farm we lived ...and she did , becoming a very proficient sheepdog! I did put a stop to her attempts at working the cattle... she was up for it... but I wasn't!
Wiffle's real niche was as a mother.... she would look after any creature, and produce milk for them, , not just her own puppies, as some of these photo will show!
She had three litters of her own, and from her aptly named CC litter she fulfilled yet another ambition for me, with CHAMPION Curnix Country Cousin at Myroak, whose litter sister Curnix Co-Caine so very nearly made it a double with 2CCs and 5RCCs to her name!!
